Figs

Earlier this week we picked loads of figs from a tree right behind our new home. These figs provided me with the perfect opportunity to try my hand at jam making...to which I now know is...

a. a lot of work
b. not very plentiful
c. super-duper delicious!!

Bounty

The hardest part of leaving our old house was leaving behind this piece of work... At the very last moment I remembered that I had forgotten to transfer this valuable bit of history. Frantically, I grabbed the only thing that remotely resembled paper, a long piece of Bounty paper towel, and hastily copied these lines, dates & names. As you can tell I also tried to capture the information with my camera, but it loses some of its impact digitally.

Now once I find that paper towel, hopefully it wasn't used to clean up some spill, I have plans to create a growth chart that will be a little more mobile. I'll let you know once I do!

5th of July

This is how we celebrate the 4th of July...on the 5th!!

July 4th

Well, well, well...we've finally done it! We sold our house, packed our bags (lots & lots of them) and moved North. An hour North to be exact! We are so excited about our new surroundings and what lies ahead for our family. The primary reason for our move is because we have the children enrolled in a fabulous school and can't wait to start! Now we have zoos to join, ballparks to roam, markets to peruse and many more adventures ahead of us! I'll do my best to keep y'all updated on all of them!

A couple of weeks ago we went up to Greenville, SC for a visit with Aunt Dottie. Can I just tell you how much my girl loves her Great-Aunt Dottie? "Aunt Dottie, Aunt Dottie...Aunt Dottie!" That's all I heard that weekend! It really doesn't hurt that Aunt Dottie has a cool Mini Cooper convertible and that we got to ride around all weekend with the top down!

What do you think it says about me as a parent that I frequently let my children entertain themselves this way? Truthfully, this my new favorite picture! Look how much fun they are having! I love how my boy is throwing his whole self into that laugh!!

It's official - my boy graduated from kindergarten!!

We have a big day today... Kindergarten Graduation!! Can you believe it? Neither can I! My baby - graduating from Kindergarten...WOW!! He's been a little emotional about the day too! This morning he was moping around - feeling melancholy about the day - I grabbed his precious face & said...

"why are you growing up so fast?"

and he replied...

"That's just how it works Mom!"

WOW! We had a crazy week last week! FOUR (4) nights of recital!! Needless to say we ate a lot of sandwiches & takeout! This week though promises better meals & less stress! Especially considering that my stomach has ended it's constant nauseousness & so-forth... But that's another story for another day!

The other day Lou was asking me if I would still be her Mother in 13 years - and I replied "yes, of course, I'll always be your Mom!" the rest of the conversation went like this...

Lou: will you be old?

Me: Well, I'll be older!

Lou: Will your hands & arms be all wrinkly?

Caitlyn & Luke

My kids play this game - where they take on another persona - Caitlyn (or is it Kaitlyn or Katelyn??) and Luke. It's pretty obvious where the name Luke came from - our honored cousin - but Caitlyn - no idea... The funny thing is that when they are playing these personalities - they listen to me really well!

Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day our little Montessori had it's own celebration and made a big deal about the day. Lots of talk about helping the planet, keeping it clean, no littering, etc... I went a little early to pick up my boy and happen to catch the tail end of an Earth Day discussion, it went a little like this...

Ms. Cheryl - speaking to the circle "What else do you do to help the Earth?"

my boy shoots his arm up excitedly....

Ms. Cheryl - "Yes, Amos?"

My boy - "My Dad & I go dumpster diving!!!"

He then turns around to look at me as proud as if he & his dad had cleaned the ocean of all pollutants themselves!

The funny thing is that when I told this story to his dad - he had the same look!

I gotta tell you...the idea of couponing never struck me as something I'd want to keep up with...lots of work, not many items that I purchase have coupons & I'm just not that organized! Well, that may have all changed today!! Check out this blog - a friend, Jessica, has recently started! I dare you not to get inspired! OK - you need more? Check this out!

I bought SEVEN boxes of Cascadian Farm Cereal today at Publix. Normally, these bad boys (or girls) would set you back about $4.00 a piece - a piece!! So, lets see... $4.00 x 7 = $28.00. TWENTY EIGHT dollars for a guilt free breakfast!! Alright, maybe not guilt free since you'd feel so guilty eating such expensive cereal! But, not anymore... at least not in the Lingenfelter household for the next couple of weeks...because Mama bought all SEVEN boxes for...drum roll please... $3.00! Yes, you read that right, I bought 7 boxes of Organic cereal for THREE DOLLARS!! Jessica, aren't you proud of me? See how your tutelage is helping? Seriously, because of some VERY simple couponing before I left for the store today I saved over $30.00! I literally cut my bill in half! I was so excited that the checker-outer guy high-fived me!

I don't know how out of control I'm going to get with this new coupon business, but I tell you one thing - I'm going to become more conscientious!

Well, he's feeling better! Thank goodness, right? Now the chore is trying to keep him occupied... Fortunately, he will go back to school tomorrow - but he'll still need to rest & not exert himself too much for 2 more weeks.

This is what happens when you kiss too many girls... That's right - this boy has mono! Actually, I don't think it was from kissing - apparently it's running rampant in our little town. Our pediatrician told us she alone has seen over 111 cases this year! She jokingly referred to his Montessori school as "Mono-sori" since so many kids have had this nasty virus!

He looks pathetic - doesn't he? Really you should feel bad for his poor parents who have to keep him out of school minimally for a week & then keep him calm & low key for two weeks afterwards...no karate, no biking, no running, no climbing, no wrestling with his Dad!
