Homeschooling Day #4

I'm not sure if the goats that our neighbors rented to clean out part of their lot was a hindrance to our homeschooling effort or really helpful...I'm going to go with helpful!  We have really enjoyed watching those 35+ goats eat their way through the brush.  Probably our favorite though, is the Great Pyrenees, George, who guards the flock. I didn't get a picture of him, he was off in the woods napping from his late night patrolling.

Home Schooling

Welcome 2016!!  We are ready to greet this new year with a big new endeavor!  Home Schooling!!  We are going to home school our girl - for at least the Spring Semester.  She is being a real trooper about the whole ordeal and I hope we don't let her down.  I'm super excited about this opportunity & am looking forward to spending more time with her this year.  I'm also going to try & document the experience and at the same time - try and take more personal photos...we'll see how this goes!  Wish us luck!!

Busy at work on her journal.  We're working on her new space too!

5th Grade Pentathlon

The 5th Grade Pentathlon, is a rite of passage for nearly every Waldorf child across America.  Throughout the 5th grade Waldorf students study ancient civilizations, in particular Greece during its golden age.  The Pentathlon is the culmination of these studies where strength, commitment and good sportsmanship intertwine with academic lessons about Greek history.

Last week our school hosted 9 schools from around the SE.  Folks came as far as New Orleans, Miami and Louisville.  All together there were 108 athletes who comprised the 4 City/States of Ancient Greece... Spartans, in red; Athenians, in yellow; Thebians in Green and Corinthians in Blue.

What an amazing experience for these kids!  What an amazing experience for their parents too!

"White Chocolate"

I just came across this gem from a few years ago.  It may already be on my blog - but I don't care - I just want to remember this for as long as possible!!

Gold Medals!

This summer we have joined a swim club, mainly so the kids could join a swim team.  Man, are we glad we did!  Although, it's meant early swim practices every morning and added to our already over scheduled calendar, we've thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!  The kids are learning a new sport, making new friends and getting some exercise to boot!  Last night they had an awesome opportunity to participate in a swim clinic with Coach Courtney Shealy Hart.  Coach Hart is the current swim coach for GA Tech and more importantly, a two time Olympic gold medalist!  How cool is that?  She not only gave the swimmers valuable lessons and encouraging words...she also brought those two, not so little, necklaces...

~ Snow Bully ~

The other day - the 1st day of Snowmageddon 2014 - we took the kids to a hill that they have been itching to sled down ever since we moved here 2.5 years ago.  Well, it finally snowed and they got their chance!  It wasn't long after we started sledding when out of nowhere...this bully shows up and...fortunately, I got it all on tape and can show it to you here!
